Our Leadership

The People Who Guide IDL

Every organization needs strong leadership, and IDL is no different. Our officers, board members, and committee chairs are dedicated volunteers who give their time and energy to keep our community thriving. They work behind the scenes and out in front, making sure that IDL continues to grow, evolve, and serve its members.

These are the people who answer the calls, plan the events, balance the books, and carry the vision forward. They are leaders, mentors, and friends. They are IDL.

A History of Leadership

IDL has been fortunate to have incredible leaders throughout its history. From the founding members who started it all in 1989 to the current board and committee members, each person has brought their own passion, skills, and vision to the organization.

The 2002 committee was a powerhouse of dedicated individuals who made the Washington DC event unforgettable. Bob Rourke and Carla "Black C" Masi served as Co-Chairs, with Rolf Hagton as Business Manager. The team included Buck Rogers and Tom Tarinto as Fundraising Coordinators, Steve Kimble as Stage Manager, and Alex Leffers handling Public Relations. Dave Robertson and Matthew Beishline managed Registration, while Jeff Panasuik served as WebMaster. Bob Donaldson was the Executive Producer, bringing it all together.

In 2011, the committee structure continued to evolve. The organization held its 20th Anniversary celebration in Denver with the theme "IDL Family Continues to Grow." This milestone event honored the long history of titleholders and celebrated two decades of Deaf leather community.

The 2012 committee brought the organization back to Baltimore for the 21st Anniversary with the theme "Leather More...We Show You Our Charm." The following year, IDL returned to Montreal for the first time since 1995 with the "Deaf Leather Village" theme.

Today, our leadership continues this proud tradition. The board members and committee chairs you see here are the latest in a long line of dedicated individuals who have given their time and energy to keep IDL strong. They carry forward the legacy of those who came before while charting a course for the future.

"Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge."
