Hello, IDL Family and Friends,

I was asked to write up my last President's letter - even though I'm no longer President. I just wanted to say a few words - THANK YOU. Thank you for the past 20 years of support and love to IDL. Thank you for all your hard work, all the fun and all the memories.

I've been a member of IDL since 1998 or 1999. I don't recall the exact year I joined, but I've had outstanding memories since the day I joined. I quickly became involved in committees, fundraising for our contests, fundraising for charity and as I did all this, I learned a lot about myself.

It was through IDL that I began to understand my role in life, as a leatherboy and as a community activist... and eventually community leader. I'm proud of my work with IDL and I'm proud of the people I now consider FAMILY. I'm not just talking about the sash family - the 20 years of titleholders that are also family, but my Deaf Leather FAMILY - including the many who are not titleholders. Every year, I met someone new and every year, our family grows.

That's why the theme at IDL 2011 was appropriate, "The IDL Family Continues to Grow". By the way, our 20th anniversary was a BLAST. We're already looking forward to the 21st in Baltimore!

It was my absolute honor to serve as your President these past two years. I have learned a lot and I worked hard to achieve the goals I had. I didn't get to achieve all of them, but that's okay - under our new leadership, I still intend to help finish those tasks. The one I wanted to achieve the most - I did. The bylaws have been rewritten and will be posted on the website soon.

At any rate, thank you all for your support during my term, it's greatly appreciated! It's now my honor to introduce to you the new officers of IDL for 2011 - 2013.

Terry, your new president, will be writing his own letter to you. Please be supportive of him - he's got big goals. I'm going to help him meet those goals. I hope you will, too.

International Deaf Leatherboy 2005

Hi, Everyone

First of all, congrats to International Deaf Leather on its 20th anniversary. IDL contest in Denver, Colorado was a blast. Several former titleholders were in attendance. Thanks to Bob Donaldson and the committee for IDL 2011 for a great job.

Congrats to the 2011 titleholders, Val Sherrill who accepted another year as IMsDL, IDLboy David Pric, and IMrDL Justin Eddy. They will have an amazing year.

I am honored to serve as president of IDL and will work to the best of my ability to serve IDL. First, I would like to thank the previous officers for all their hard work. I would like to thank boy alex, Rey Vega, Crystal Sisk, Lady Sapphire, and Daddy Bill for all they have done.

I am especially proud that they have passed the bylaws which is a very important step toward the goal of having IDL become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. I will continue to work on pursuing this and keep things updated related to IDL.

It is my goal to increase the awareness of IDL and to have IDL involved in more fundraisers, events, and to work with others. We have a few positions open such as Historian, Membership Keeper, Bylaw Committee Chair, and Contest Guideline Chair. If you are interested in any of these positions, please let us know.

I look forward to working with the current board as well as with everyone else as always.
